With extra chairs brought in to form an intimate circle, artist Robert Irwin held court inside the Barrick Museum lecture hall on December 10. The pioneer of the "Light and Space" movement from California, and creator of the 134,000-square-foot Central Garden at the Getty Center, was first given a low comfortable chair. Before the talk, Irwin insisted on a chair that gave him a better view of the packed room. He got one. Then he offered random thoughts and stories, including how artists need a strong philosophy, and tales of some adventures with architects. The lecture was a quietly powerful finale for the 2015 UNLV Artist Lecture Series.
